Complementarity of experimental and lattice QCD data on pion parton distributions

We extract pion parton distribution functions (PDFs) in a Monte Carlo global QCD analysis of experimental data together with reduced Ioffe time pseudo-distributions and matrix elements current-current correlators generated from lattice QCD. By including both data, our rigorously quantifies the uncertainties PDFs systematic effects intrinsic to observables. The significantly decrease on PDFs, while are limited by associated lattice. Consistent recent phenomenological determinations, behavior valence quark at large momentum fraction is found be $\ensuremath{\sim}(1\ensuremath{-}x{)}^{{\ensuremath{\beta}}_{\mathrm{eff}}}$ ${\ensuremath{\beta}}_{\mathrm{eff}}\ensuremath{\approx}1.0--1.2$.

We extract the x dependence of the valence nonsinglet u − d distribution function in the nucleon from the lowest few moments calculated on the lattice, using an extrapolation formula which ensures the correct behavior in the chiral and heavy quark limits.
